Step by step

  1. Study for the exam — Delaware doesn't require a pre-licensing course for this license, but most first-time candidates take an exam-prep course.
  2. Schedule and pass the state exam with Pearson VUE ($90). Read the candidate handbook.
  3. Get fingerprinted if required — State (SBI) + FBI criminal history reports required, dated within 90 days; cost unverified (~$65-85).
  4. Apply for the license through NIPR or the Delaware Department of Insurance ($125).
  5. Get appointed by an insurance company (agents) and keep up with continuing education — 24 per 2 yrs incl. 3 ethics (Reg. 504; unverified hours) hours per renewal (license term: 2 years).
